Physical Therapy Physical therapy is the health profession that focuses on the evaluation, management, and prevention of disorders of human motion.

Southampton Memorial Hospital rehabilitation services offer the following:

Physical Therapy

The Physical Therapy (PT) staff consists of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants. Through therapy either in the patient's room or in our well-equipped gym, we can treat, heal, and help prevent a variety of patient injuries and disabilities. In addition, physical therapy can help relieve pain, restore movement, rebuild the patient's confidence, and return to an active lifestyle.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) services are available for inpatients, residents of the Skilled Nursing Facility and East Pavilion residents as well as to the community on an outpatient basis. Based on a physician's order, our registered occupational therapist will complete an evaluation and develop an individualized plan to help the patient regain function in their daily living skills.

To help with the rehabilitative process, the therapist can also recommend appropriate medical equipment for the home such as wheelchairs, tub seats and bedside toilets.

Speech Therapy

Speech Therapy (ST) services are available for infants through adults who experience difficulty communicating and swallowing.

Based on a physician's order, a speech pathologist will evaluate and develop an inpatient or outpatient treatment plan. Speech therapy services are also provided through the Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), East Pavilion, and our home health service.

Our goal is to maximize communication and swallowing skills by working as a team with the patient, their family and caregivers.
