Franklin, Virginia is a beautiful town of 8,400 situated in the Tidewater region of Virginia. Southampton Memorial Hospital is the sole community provider and has a market drawing area of 36,362. Franklin city and Southampton County are referenced as being in the "middle of everywhere". This southeastern Virginia community is only a few miles from the North Carolina border. Southampton Memorial Hospital, established in 1963 is a 221 bed healthcare facility affiliated with Community Health Systems since 2000. The facility has recently received $17.5 million in renovations and new construction including a new ED and OR. All patient rooms at the hospital are private. The facility is scheduled for an additional $2.5 million in renovations for the year 2005.
Services include cardiopulmonary, ENT, general surgery, gynecology, home health / hospice, ICU, emergency services, full service laboratory, imaging services, nuclear medicine, obstetrics, physical rehabilitation and long term care. There are 31 active staff members and 61 courtesy staff.
